I can sum up the challenges I've had in two words, Excellent Manage! I can not speak for all the units out there, only mine. Go back to the auto parts retailer and invest in some muffler patch putty. Just smear it over the little holes and let it cure as per directions. It can be sanded and painted with high temp. paint following it cures if you want. After about 4 months the fuel line created a crack and began leaking. I replaced it with quality 3/16" fuel line and added an in-line filter. I switched to full synthetic oil immediately after about 30 hours of operation so the engine should last a long time. A single other note when I place it below a 1000+ watt load the engine started working tougher and developed additional vibration. If the generator is setting on a smooth surface, it will begin walking away caused by the added vibration. The cheap, clip-on vibration pads just do not function. Cut a piece of old carpet padding (18" X 18") and set the generator on it. I've place about 200 hours on this little unit and it still runs fine. All in all, just after about $25.00 for parts/supplies, and eight hours of troubleshooting and labor, I have exactly what I want and I am pleased with it now. I purchased this generator and was quite disappointed. The housing surrounding the pull cord is produced of quite affordable plastic that will break just after a few pulls, and cause the cord to tangle. It is absolutely nothing but a headache.
